Scaling with purpose
After a strong foundation in 2024, the partnership entered a new phase in 2025. Sangira’s instructors—trained through GSL’s Train-the-Trainer program—returned with greater confidence and ownership, delivering a smoother, more structured learning experience. Data from this cohort shows:
- 90%+ module completion on time
- Significant improvement in theoretical knowledge
- High engagement across the program
This is scaling in action: stronger systems, stronger results.
Learning goals matched with real outcomes
Students entered the program with clear ambitions:
- 50% hoped for a job or a better job
- 35% wanted to improve their cooking skills
And the training delivered measurable impact:
- 66.7% felt better prepared for a job
- 28.6% secured a job
- 4.8% obtained a better job
- 90.9% said the training improved their kitchen skills “a lot”
- 95% would “very likely” recommend the training
These results show that Swiss-quality vocational training can open real professional doors.
Hotel managers and Head Chefs confirmed the trend, praising graduates for their discipline, foundations, and independence. As one chef noted, “Compared to other schools, this training is far ahead.”
Human stories behind the numbers
Behind every graph is someone whose life is changing.
Like Ombeni, who entered the program with nothing but determination, completed it, and now works as a cook—his dream expanding from “a small restaurant” to “a hotel one day.”
Or Benitta, whose confidence soared after mastering hygiene, sauces, and plating.
These individual journeys are at the heart of why scaling matters.
Looking ahead
Next steps are already underway:
- Launching Kitchen Assistant Level 2
- Piloting the GSL Bakery module
- Deepening engagement with local hotels and restaurants
Scaling in Rwanda isn’t just about training more students—it’s about creating pathways to employment, dignity, and long-term growth. Together with Sangira, we’re building a model of vocational education that empowers individuals and strengthens communities.
And in Nyamasheke, this is only the beginning.
