About the partnership
With beer being a key part of Swiss culinary culture, the partnership focuses on strengthening expertise in brewing processes, beer styles, proper service, storage, and beer–food pairing.
In addition to the SBV, GastroSuisse—Switzerland’s largest hospitality association, with nearly 20,000 member businesses—is supporting the initiative and helping ensure it reaches professionals across the industry.
A new digital course: Beer Competence
At the core of the partnership is a new practice-oriented online course called Beer Competence, designed together with leading Swiss brewing experts from the SBV.
Hosted on GSL’s digital learning platform, the course offers flexible, high-quality training that aligns with the real-world needs of restaurant and hotel professionals.
Available now in German in Switzerland, the course will be expanded into multiple languages in summer. Participants who complete the training receive a personalized certificate, helping them build confidence in consulting, serving, and presenting beer with greater expertise.
What's next?
“Beer is a cultural asset and deserves the same appreciation as wine or coffee,” says Marcel Kreber, Director of the Swiss Breweries’ Federation, “with this partnership, we are creating a strong foundation for guidance, enjoyment, and quality.”
