Growing hospitality talent in Cambodia with NGO SPOONS

Based in Siem Reap, SPOONS is a non-profit organization that empowers vulnerable young adults through hospitality education, combining professional training, practical experience, internships, and life skills development. Since being introduced to GSL by our long-standing partner Child's Dream Foundation—which also connected us with partners such as YDFA and Haven—the collaboration has steadily expanded.

Growing Skills, Growing Opportunities

Following the successful completion of the Kitchen Assistant Train-the-Trainer program, SPOONS has continued to expand access to culinary education. Today, 25 students are progressing through the Kitchen Assistant training and are expected to complete the program in July.

The impact of the program is already being felt among learners and trainers alike. Participants report growing confidence, stronger technical skills, and increased motivation to continue their professional development.

👉To further improve accessibility, the Kitchen Assistant curriculum is now available in Khmer, helping reduce language barriers and making high-quality hospitality education available to even more learners.‍

What's Next for SPOONS?

Building on the success of the Kitchen Assistant program, SPOONS is already planning the next phase of its learning journey. Upcoming initiatives include launching the Bakery Program for local trainers and progressing selected learners to Kitchen Assistant Level 2.

These next steps reflect SPOONS' commitment to creating long-term career opportunities for young people while strengthening local hospitality talent in Cambodia.
